Does Canada Post Use Ox-Wagons?
It must have been post-Olympic nationalistic lunacy that made me walk into a Canada Post Office to send a letter by registered mail to the US. Why else would I utilize the "services" of a Corporation who expend more effort on advertising their politically correctness than they do on providing service?
I handed in a letter to go by registered mail to New York on April 3rd. The 4th was Easter Monday- that's a holiday in Canada so the 5th would be the first working day. According to the Tracking System two days later, on the 7th, my little registered envelope "left Canada".
Unless it goes to the North Pole for Santa's elves to sort, it should have reached New York at least by the next day. I mean a passenger plane takes less than 5 hours direct from YVR to any of the New York city airports. So being charitable let's say it landed somewhere in the US by the 8th of April.
Well it is now the 15th April - seven, yes SEVEN days later, and it still is not even showing that it has been scanned in at a US mail destination, never-mind having been sent out for delivery. Unbelievable.
I checked two other shipping companies - you can guess which - and their standard delivery times are around 5 business days.
A phone call to the "Customer Service" line after half an hour on hold got me the response that if it has not arrived by May 3rd - yes ONE MONTH after I handed it in, they will investigate.
So I pose the question. Does Canada Post send their mail by ox-wagon across North America?
Can anyone answer me?

Does Canada Post Use Ox-Wagons?
I think they stopped using ox carts a few years ago because they were ultimately too reliable. Now they use hitchhikers going to random destinations. :)
My Own Tracking System
I intend to track this daily to see when it actually materializes. An optimist obviously as I think it will eventually turn up. So watch this space!
Day 10 since it "left Canada"
Still not "scanned" in at US end. I don't get it!
Day 11 and nada
Oh I forgot. Canada Post takes Saturday and Sundays off. At least their customer service line does, And their deliveries.
Twenty-two days and counting
It is 22 days since I handed in the registered letter at the Post Office and 19 since it is tracked as having "left Canada" - unbelievable. And thye wont investigate till it has been over a month.
canada post tracking/ deliveries.
I ordered a package from P.E.I , it showed up on tracking 2 days later. The next day, tracking shows it had left there and was now in Dieppe, Nova Scotia. The next day, the tracking says item processed at postal facility at Montreal, the next day it said that again, it said that twice, 6 days later, today, which was estimated arrival date, it has said "location: Montreal description: item processed at postal facility" about 8 times in a row, I almost have to scroll down the page to see the tracking history. Its destination is Toronto, like, cmon! where is my parcel??
Next time I buy something online, I'm gonna ask them to ship it with some other option, just no Canada Post. And i'm still wondering if my item is lost, it is now Friday, so they say it will be here Monday when I called them. WOW! I think US postal service does better, well, at least they dont keep your item at one place for like 5 days and show it 8 times on tracking, there are like 15 postal facilities in Montreal all, what are they doing, taking my item for a visit to each facility? They better be responsible for that 300$ package if it never comes!
I so share your frustration
I actually sent an email to the "blog" of the head of Canada Post, sharing my frustration at the four weeks it took to get my letter delivered. But natch I never heard a thing back.
If its any consolation, my letter did finally get there so hopefully your $300 dollar parcel will too - good luck!
